  • Activity Style: Market/street food
  • Size: Small. 20+ stalls
  • Price: From £4 for a substantial sandwich, around £12 for drink, lunch and a sweet ending.
  • Facilities: Chairs are in short supply – sit on the steps to dine, cafes nearby for toilets and alcoholic drinks.
  • Languages: English.
  • Perfect for: mid-day lunch dash from the office, families
  • Also not bad for: Anyone really, chardonnay socialists in particular.
  • Pros: Food is very yummy and good quality, wacky stall holders, well positioned near the traditional Covent Garden market.
  • Cons: Some of the dishes are not cheap (but given it is all organic and free range, it’s realistic), some stalls very crowded, nowhere to sit and all the sandwiches are very drippy (don’t wear white pants).
  • Dishes to look for: juicy free-range burgers from Jacob’s Ladder (all about the meat) and Woodwards farm (all about the pickles), tender roasted duck sandwiches from Duck ‘n roll, lucious pulled pork from Dixie union, Eton Mess from Saint Sugar of London
  • Nearest Airport: London Heathrow (1 hr)
  • Details: Every Thursday from 11am to 7pm, more information on the Covent Garden website

Rating: 9/10*

Notes:

*A guide to ratings: These take into account the price, quality, service and the facilities, and in effect are a value rating.

  • 0-2/10 = exceptionally overpriced. Avoid at all costs, even if it means travelling to stay elsewhere overnight.
  • 3-5/10 = overpriced in respect to quality. Don’t stay unless there are no other options.
  • 6-7/10 = reasonable value. Check other options in the area just in case, but not a bad choice over-all.
  • 8-9/10= worth seeking out. Great value in respect to the offer, one of if not the best option in the area.
  • 10/10= super place. Stop what you’re doing, book a plane ticket and go there now.
