A little early this fortnight – considering Halloween is happening in two days, I thought it vital I give you a little time to ponder the spooktacular selections (Oh dear. I’m very sorry for that awful pun). I’m also going to keep it local this fortnight, as there’s quite a bit on. I’ll start looking into Truffle markets and Christmas leadup around the world next time.

Italian Cuisine World Summit (Dubai)

  • When: November 6 to 10
  • What: Great big Italian Cuisine hoo-hah with celebrity chefs, Michelin stars, dinners, lunches, master classes, products, competitions and more. Some free, some paid. All looks very interesting.

Pink Polo

  • DDO29-pink poloWhen: November 8, 2pm onwards (polo starts at 5pm)
  • What: A fun day out created to support breast cancer awareness in the UAE. Built around a polo exhibition game, the day also hosts activities for the entire family including camel and pony rides, falcon shows, golf lessons, camel polo, photo sessions with polo players and reserved picnic areas. The key feature: the “Pink Clinic”, is a centre point where guests have the opportunity to talk to medical experts, learn self-examination techniques and undergo free screenings at the mobile mammography unit.

Jeff Ramsay appears at Umai, The Oberoi

  • When: November 1 to 8
  • What: Jeff Ramsay, incredible chef with too many gongs to mention here (check out his website) will be cooking at Umai for one week only. The degustation menu features over 25 intriguing molecular taps dishes created using a range of spellbinding techniques.

High tea on a high tide

  • When: Every day, only one sailing per day
  • What: afternoon tea offer served exclusively on an abra, along 3km of waterways of Madinat Jumeirah. As the abra sets off guests are treated to bubbles, sandwiches, English scones and delicious designer cakes prepared specially by the resort’s world-renowned Executive Pastry Chef Paul Hayward. Battle Of The Chefs at JA Palm Tree Court

  • When: Wednesday October 30 5pm onwards
  • What: Michelin Star Chef, Stefan Karlsson will be joining the JA team for a culinary battle against Executive Chef, Nicolas Smalberger at the JA Palm Tree Court Amphitheatre located within the JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort. Free for the battle and canapes (5pm), 360AED for following dinner.

The Great Pretender on the Terrace

  • When: Thursday October 31, 8pm
  • What: Dinner on the renovated and newly opened terrace at the Millenium Airport Hotel starts at 8, with the backing of “Roadhouse”, followed by a Freddy Mercury Tribute by Steve Littlewood. Music is free, but you can partake of the BBQ for 250AED per head including plenty of bevvies.

Family Afternoon Fancy Dress Party at Al Sammar, Madinat Jumeirah

  • When: Thursday October 31 3pm until 6pm
  • What: Activities for children include rock climbing, pumpkin painting, spooky picture opportunity, fancy dress competition, face painting and a dark adventure tent to blind taste and touch test! The Annual OKKU Halloween: Zombie L.O.V.E.
